Lifejackets and Buoyancy Aids can be generically classed as Personal Flotation Devices PFDs. These can be divided into two main classes: 1) Gas / oral inflatable lifejackets which provide face-up in-water support to the user regardless of physical conditions. These will generally fall into the 150 Newton and 275 Newton categories. 2) Inherent foam non-inflatable buoyancy aids which require the user to be competent in swimming and / or positioning themself in the water to maintain the face-up position. These will generally fall into the 50 Newton and 100 Newton categories. |
